Questions, answered.
Everything people ask us before their first Flatpack Facelift. Can't find your answer? Email hello@thepaneledit.com — a real person replies.
Will the corner pieces definitely fit my KALLAX?
Yes — every piece is precision-cut to drop neatly into the inside corners of a standard IKEA KALLAX cube. You don't measure or cut anything. We're launching for the KALLAX range (the various widths and heights all share the same cube size), with more IKEA pieces added based on waitlist votes.
How do they attach? Do I need tools?
No tools at all. Each corner piece has double-sided tape already fitted — you peel the backing, position it in the corner of the cube, and press. Fit them flush with the front edge, or set them back a touch so the tape hides away and there are no visible lines — it's fully customisable to your choosing. Full instructions come in the box.
Will it damage the furniture? I'm renting.
There's no drilling or screwing, so nothing structural. One honest note: the tape is designed to hold, so peeling a piece off later may mark the surface, especially on IKEA's foil-wrapped finishes. If you need a fully reversible option for a landlord's furniture, email us before ordering and we'll advise on lower-tack tape.
How thick are they?
Just 2.5mm — thinner than a pound coin. They tuck neatly into the inside corners of the cube and simply frame the opening, adding character without any bulk.
What do I paint them with?
They're white PVC, so any paint suited to plastic or a quick primer-plus-topcoat works beautifully. Match them to the unit, match them to your wall, or make them contrast — your call. You can paint before fitting (easiest) or after. They also look great left clean white.
Do I have to paint them?
Not at all. They arrive clean white and look crisp as they are, especially against a white KALLAX. Painting is just there if you want them to match a colour or disappear into the unit completely.
How long does it take?
Minutes per cube — peel, press, done. A whole unit is an easy afternoon, less if you're not painting. If you can stick on a phone screen protector, you can do this.
When are you launching, and how does the waitlist work?
Our debut collection is in final development now. Waitlist members get early access before public launch, launch-only pricing, and a vote on which IKEA pieces we cut for next. Join at the bottom of the home page.
I've got a different-sized cabinet — can you still help?
Very possibly. If you have a cube or cabinet that isn't standard IKEA, or you'd like a custom-sized arch to fit something of your own, get in touch at hello@thepaneledit.com with your measurements and we'll see what we can cut for you.
Are you affiliated with IKEA?
No. We're an independent business based in the North West of England. We reference IKEA product names only so you know what fits what — IKEA hasn't endorsed or sponsored us (though we do think they'd approve of furniture being loved for longer).
What about delivery and returns?
Full delivery and returns details will be published at launch. Pieces ship flat and well-protected. Because they're cut to order, made-to-order rules will apply to returns — we'll set this out clearly before you ever pay for anything.
